WHAT'S IN THE NAME?
The name reflects the shop's location: Morocco Street. The area used to be famous for both its tanneries and its printing industry. Moroccan leather was some of the finest quality out there, historically used for binding books, which is very fitting for our store!
HOW LONG HAS IT EXISTED?
Morocco Bound has existed since September 2019, but under various guises. The space was first used as an office by Jonathan's architectural firm. It was after going on a literary tour of Zimbabwe that he was inspired to open his own bookshop, to sell global literature to a local area.
Over time the shop has ventured down various paths, with new events popping up all the time and new ideas always being welcomed. As we grow and reach new customers, our position as your go to book and beer shop will remain!
MEET THE TEAM
Anouska is our in-house artist and gig booker. When not dealing with multiple requests from the team for yet another sick drawing, Anouska is making big waves in the South London music scene with her band Honeyglaze, or at her kitchen table making poetry. Originally from Kent, Anouska moved to London to study Fine Art in Camberwell. She is the queen of pouring pints and helped build our amazing planters out the front of the store (now sprouting a real orange!). She would never admit it, but Anouska is our resident cool kid, you need only see her sporting her Bianca Road beanie to know this.
Jesse should be your go-to on all beer related enquiries (namely, which lager should I get). With a plethora of experience in theatre, both on the stage and off it as a producer, meaning we are lucky to have her expertise and organisation. Jesse finds it hard not to make best friends with most who come through the door. Count yourself especially blessed if you receive one of her famous “ghost” latte art originals. Her holy trinity is Peckham, Morleys and Pints.
Beth is an English Literature graduate who exclusively plays 60s hits when given the Spotify reins. The MB quiz master is behind our monthly pub quiz challenge, and her self taught marketing skills are most of what you see on our well maintained socials. Beth first got to know Morocco Bound through its zine club and poetry nights, and her artistic streak has allowed her to now run these herself! Beth isn’t particularly interested in our beer stock, choosing to opt for a Momo Kombucha instead when the occasion calls.
Grace is our token Australian on the team, and every now and then will sneak some Australian fiction into her book stock order to prove it. You will find her running the monthly book club, and usually manically trying to finish the book the day of.
Cal studied English Literature and Philosophy at Sussex before joining MB in September 2021. Cal organises our live music and events. Has been known to play a few of them himself, with his punk-folk band Flounder. Ask him to put on some Irish folk next time you pop by, it will make him very happy. Cal's other hobbies include playing snooker, drinking cider and eating kebabs (usually in that order, of an eve).
